If you are no longer happy with your AT&T Wireless account or have switched to a new mobile carrier, you can cancel your service at any time with these helpful tips.
AT&T Wireless is an American telecommunications company that provides mobile services (both mobile phones and mobile phone plans) to customers throughout the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. AT&T was founded in 2000 and has over 5,000 retail locations worldwide.
If you are no longer happy with your AT&T Wireless account or have switched to a new mobile carrier, you can cancel your service at any time. Cancellation fees may apply for certain service agreements.
Go to www.att.com
In the top right corner, select the downward-facing arrow next to 'Account.'
Click 'Sign In.'
Log in to your AT&T Wireless account with your user ID and password.
Once logged in, go to your account details and find your AT&T Wireless account number. You can find this at the top of any of your previous bills. You will need this number on hand when speaking with an AT&T Wireless customer service representative.
Next, review your AT&T Wireless service agreement, which can be found in your account details. This will include important details about canceling your contract.
Note that if you cancel while you are still under a service agreement, an Early Termination Fee (EFT) will be charged.
If you have a balance for your phone, this will have to be paid outright.
Exceptions to this rule are if you cancel your subscription within 14 days of getting the contract and return your phone in new condition. In this scenario, an EFT will not be charged.
You will need to request assistance in canceling your contract. Provide your AT&T Wireless account number. Ask for the customer service representative to clearly outline what fees will be due. Keep the AT&T Wireless representative on the line until you receive an email confirming the contract has been canceled. Review the email to make sure all the details are correct.
Find the store closest to you. Note the store hours and visit the retail location. Ask them to assist you in canceling your service. Have your AT&T Wireless account number ready.
Note that if you wish to keep your current phone number, you will need to go to a new mobile carrier and sign up with them first. Your new mobile carrier will be able to transfer your number over and cancel your AT&T Wireless service. However, your new mobile carrier will not be able to tell you what fees you owe to AT&T Wireless. You can contact AT&T Wireless Customer Support via Live Chat if you wish to get a better understanding of your cancellation fees before going to sign up with another mobile carrier. You cannot cancel a service agreement over live chat, you can only do so over the phone or at an AT&T Wireless Retail Location.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like AT&T Wireless in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Cancel My Service with AT&T Wireless? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
