AT&T is one of the best-known telecommunication companies in the country, so if you are looking for a new cellphone service provider, you may be considering AT&T Wireless. This article will give you the details you need to decide if AT&T Wireless is a good choice for you.

AT&T Wireless' Service Plans

AT&T Wireless offers four plans. None of them require a contract.

  • 4 GB: This plan offers 4 GB of data, a 4G LTE network, and standard definition streaming. It costs $50 per month.
  • Unlimited Starter: This plan has 5G coverage, unlimited data, and standard definition streaming. It costs $65 per month and requires auto-pay and paperless billing. On this plan, your phone may be deprioritized during busy times.
  • Unlimited Extra: This plan has 5G coverage, unlimited data, standard definition streaming, and 15 GB mobile hotspot. It costs $75 per month and requires auto-pay and paperless billing. On this plan, your phone may be deprioritized after you use 50 GB of data.
  • Unlimited Elite: This plan has 5G coverage, unlimited data, 4K ultra-high definition streaming, and a 40 GB mobile hotspot. It also comes with HBO Max. It costs $85 per month and requires auto-pay and paperless billing. On this plan, your phone may be deprioritized after you use 100 GB of data.

AT&T Wireless' Speed

All of the plans have an average download speed of 28.9 Mbps. This is very close to, but slightly slower than, other top wireless providers like Verizon and T-Mobile.

AT&T Wireless' Coverage

AT&T Wireless' network covers approximately 60% of the country. The uncovered regions are mostly rural parts of California, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Arizona, Nevada, and Idaho.

AT&T Wireless' Perks

AT&T offers free overnight shipping on new devices. It also allows you to upgrade your device even before you have finished paying for it. The company offers reduced prices for members of the military, such as $48.75 per month for Unlimited Starter, $56.25 per month for Unlimited Extra, and $63.75 per month for Unlimited Elite. The company will also occasionally send out free movie tickets and other little gifts to its customers.

AT&T Wireless' Prices

AT&T Wireless' prices are higher than those of most of its competitors for comparable plans. T-Mobile's equivalent of the Unlimited Starter plan costs just $60 per month. Ultra Mobile has one for $49 per month. Simple Mobile has one for $45 per month. Visible charges only $40 per month for theirs. Only Verizon is more expensive, with a price of $70 per month.

The Takeaway

All in all, AT&T Wireless is not going to be a good deal for most people. Its prices are much higher than average, and most of its plans only come with standard definition streaming. The deprioritization clauses mean that you may not always be able to take advantage of the company's high download speeds. And the company's coverage, though decent, is not the best.
