What are the hours and when should I call?

Bank of America operates the call center for this 800-669-5224 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Tuesday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 70,005 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Bank of America phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Bank of America staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call Bank of America is Tuesday. The most busy day to call is Friday. Again, this is based on a sample of 70,005 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.
The shortest wait on hold
We measured the shortest hold times to be on Wednesday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Thursday.
The best time to call
In summation, the best day to call Bank of America is Tuesday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that Bank of America staffs the call center well on Tuesday.

My Experience Calling Bank of America at this Number

Jan 17, 2024

Calling this number can help you get the address to receive information from Bank of America's bankruptcy repayment services, but for the most part, that's it. You might be able to get customer help if you're willing to provide personal information, but if you're not going to give that out, this is as far as you can get.

When I called, I was only able to get as far as requesting the address for repayment services, which I did to check what it would provide. Upon asking for the address, it gave two of them to me. One was the standard address, with the other being used for overnight requests. With each address, the system gave me the address twice to confirm I had it before hanging up at the end of the message.

If you're trying to get this information, you have to wait until the system actually gets to that part of the welcome message before moving forward. To request the address, you must press 1, but you can only do so after the system tells you to do it to get the Bank of America address. Doing it either before or after that part of the message has completed results in the system ignoring your entry.

When calling Bank of America and trying to get past the initial choke point, you need to call at the correct time to be able to get someone on the phone. If you call past 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday or at any time on weekends, you won't be able to connect with anyone. In those situations, the system simply tells you that nobody is available to take your call and you'll have to try back another time.

Neither the automated assistant nor Bank of America do anything to tell you this, however, as this number isn't publicized on Bank of America's website. It's known as the bankruptcy number and confirms its purpose when you dial, but Bank of America doesn't list it on an official website. Its existence is only known because of third-party sites that put this number out there for potential customers.

Given that this number doesn't have a transfer system to get you to other branches of Bank of America, it makes sense that it isn't publicized. Bank of America clearly wants to keep this only for the select few customers who need it, and it isn't going to make it easy for people to gain access to it.

I find that understandable, and given that Bank of America has gone out of its way to hide this number, I have no problem with the lack of a true phone menu. I wouldn't use this number unless I specifically needed it, as it appears to be no use to anyone who hasn't already begun bankruptcy protection services through Bank of America.
