If you've noticed a charge on your CitiCard that you didn't make, you can dispute it. First, you should dispute it with the merchant. If that doesn't work, you can dispute it with Citibank by phone, online, or by mail. However, Citibank may not investigate disputes made by phone or online.
If you've noticed a charge on your CitiCard that you don't recognize, you can dispute the transaction with Citibank. You have a few different options for doing so. Learn more about it below.
Before you dispute the charge with Citibank, you should contact the merchant who was involved with the transaction. The merchant will have instant access to all of the transaction information and may possibly resolve the dispute sooner than Citibank due to having the information on hand. If the merchant refuses to remove the charge, you have a few options, but you must make the dispute within 60 days of the transaction you are disputing. Let's look at ways to dispute your charge.
Citibank prefers that you use the mail to initiate a charge dispute. Write a letter to Citibank stating that you want to dispute a charge and your reason for doing so. Include all of the following information:
Mail it to:
Citibank Customer Service
P.O. Box 6004
Sioux Falls, SD, 57117-6004
You can also dispute the charge by phone. You'll need to have access to all the information listed in the section above. Disputing the charge by phone could get the process moving much faster. However, be warned: Citibank's policy is that it will not necessarily investigate disputes made by phone, only those made by mail.
Similarly, you can dispute the charge online. This, too, could get things moving faster. However, the same warning applies: Citibank may not investigate a dispute begun this way. If you want to try, follow these instructions:
Citibank can take from 60 to 90 days to investigate your allegations if the company chooses to do so. During this time Citibank will send you updates by email, and possibly requests for documentation or additional information. If Citibank decides in your favor, the company will reimburse you for the charge.
To contact Citibank, you can use the phone, chat room, or help forum.
