One of the most unstoppable facts about life is that it changes, which affects any plan you make. Alaska Air understands this so they have a no-fee cancellation period of 24 hours in case something happens from the time you purchase. This way you'll receive a full refund. The fee is $125 outside of this no-fee period but eligible refunds are still issued within 7 business days if you paid by credit card.

You've booked a flight on Alaska Airlines but something has come up, and you don't know when you can rebook. What do you do in this situation? The only option for now is to cancel, but there are going to be rules involved which are going to affect how much of a refund you get. This guide will give you an overview and then show you how to cancel your flight with Alaska Air.
Cancellation Policies
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of purchase are free, and therefore full refunds of unused tickets are issued.
- Cancellations made after 24 hours incur a $125 fee, so the resulting refund would be the cost of booking minus the fee.
- The $125 cancellation fee is waived for refundable first-class tickets and members of MVP Gold level Mileage Plan, even for cancellations made after the 24 hour grace-period.
Refund Policies
- All eligible refunds are processed within 20 business days for cash purchases and 7 business days for credit card purchases.
- Please note that it may take between 7 and 14 business days for your credit card company to post the refund to your account.
- Refunds to credit cards are made to the purchaser's original form of payment.
- Bookings made online can also have the refunds requested online at alaskaair.com, as long as the ticket is unused for the most part.
- For refunds on all other electronic and refundable tickets, please call the reservations desk for help.
- For refunds on paper tickets, Alaska Air needs the see the ticket to determine its eligibility. The quickest way is to take your ticket to the place of purchase, whether a travel agency or Alaska Air ticket counter, for a refund. Otherwise, your ticket would need to be mailed. Checking Refund Status
Alaska Air provides three ways to check the status of your refund, by phone, fax or email.
- Call the refund status representatives here, they are available Mondays through Fridays from 9 A.M. until 12 P.M. and 1 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. PST
- You can also fax them at 206-392-7587 or email refunds@alaskaair.com regarding inquiries.
Making the Cancellation
- You can go to alaskaair.com or open the app.
- On the website, click on Manage and enter the passenger's last name and either the confirmation code or e-ticket number. You can also sign into your account and cancel your flight in case you're unable to locate the confirmation code or e-ticket number.
- For the app, sign in and tap the flight you want to cancel, then tap the cancel reservation option and follow the steps.
