How do I downgrade my Verizon FiOS package?Verizon has some of the fastest speeds available and they offer many great package bundles that are fairly priced. When I was with Verizon and wanted to downgrade my Verizon FiOS package, I was told that it would cost a lot since I had a contract; therefore, I would have to pay early termination fees.

Early Termination Fees

Early termination fees can cost anywhere from $175 to $350 depending on your agreement. Thus, there may also be fees associated with prorated access charges, usage fees, surcharges, taxes, and more that you accrue before and during the termination process, which you will have to pay.

Always check with the provider before making any major decisions as they can go through your contract and tell you exactly how much you will be charged for terminating their service. On the contrary, they may even offer you a nice discount to keep the service you already have, which is always nice.

In addition, if you just signed up for service within the past 14 days, you have the right to terminate your contract without having to pay termination fees, although there will still be some small charges.

Switching Providers for an Incentive

If it has been, more than 14 days and you wish to cancel your service you might consider carriers who will pay your termination fees and also provide you with a small stipend to transfer to their service. Currently, big carriers are offering up to a $650 reward to transfer services. Just be aware that it may not be as simple as it seems. Read through the contracts and ask a lot of questions, if you are unclear of the contents before signing or you could be digging yourself into a deeper hole than what you started with.

No Need to Downgrade your Verizon FiOS package

However, today, most people can take advantage of Verizon's plans without committing to a contract deal. If this is the case, then yes, you can downgrade your Verizon FiOS package. But, why would you want to? While years ago, you would have to pay more and more for additional features, nowadays it's different. Today, you get most of the features included in your bundle for a special price. Moreover, some are fortunate enough to have the price for their package deal locked in where others have to deal with cost increases each year.

Downgrading your plan would mean breaking up your package deal, which may cost you more since you will no longer get the special price of the bundle or package.

How to Get the Special Deals for New Customers Only

Currently, there is a new special being offered to new customers only that looks very attractive to long-time loyal clients. Some claim it is unfair that those who were with the company many years have to continue paying a higher price than those who just came aboard.

There is a way that you could also start fresh as a new customer, but it will take some time. Rather than cut your Verizon FiOS package down to size, you can switch to another provider and stay away from Verizon for at least 90 days. After that, you too can get these appealing first-time customer deals. The only problem with this method is that when you switch providers most company's want to lock you into a contract deal for one, two, or three years, so find out exactly what kind of commitment is required before signing anything. However, all this can be avoided by talking to a Verizon agent who may consider lowering your monthly bill. Click here to locate one now.
