What Do I Do If I Was Bumped Off of My Frontier Airlines Flight?

Being bumped from a flight can be inconvenient. However, Frontier Airlines does provide compensation and options for customers that get bumped, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Common forms of compensation include flight vouchers and monetary compensation, but can also include much more. Hotel accommodations, transportation to and from the airport, in addition to many other perks, are often offered as compensation. Most importantly, discuss your choices with an airline representative and make sure you're aware of all the options available to you.

Flying can be both fun and stressful. However, most passengers experience the latter feeling when unexpected things happen. If you're bumped from a flight your plans are interrupted and you often wonder what you need to do to get where you're going. You may also wonder if you should reschedule your trip for another time. Regardless of what you decide, you need to know your options and rights if this happens to you. Frontier Airlines is committed to providing options for passengers who experience being bumped from a flight.

Speak with a Frontier Airlines Agent

After you find out that you've been bumped from a flight, your first course of action should be to talk with a Frontier Airline's representative. A representative can provide details regarding your options and possible compensation for being bumped from a flight. Also, the airline will more than likely give you something in writing explaining your rights as a customer who has been bumped from a flight.

General Practices

The US Department of Travel requires airlines to provide compensation to bumped passengers on the same day that the bump occurs. The airline must provide compensation in the form of substitute transportation and or monetary compensation. However, if the airline finds alternative transportation before they can provide monetary compensation to the passenger, the airline must pay the passenger within twenty four hours. Typically, passengers are bumped when there aren't enough seats on a flight or a seat is needed for a US Marshall.

Your Options

More than likely, you will have the option to take a different flight. A Frontier Airlines representative will outline all the details of the flight and the times that you will be able to take this alternate flight. You may also be entitled to monetary compensation or flight vouchers. The airline may also reimburse you or pay you a certain amount to compensate you for the bumped flight. You might also receive a flight voucher to be used for another flight.

Can You Refuse to be Bumped?

Most airlines will ask for volunteers before bumping a passenger. However, there are situations when no one volunteers and the airline is forced to select someone to be bumped. In this situation, and all situations, some form of compensation will always be offered. The type of compensation is often based on the situation and airlines have the authority to determine how they handle this. It should be noted, however, that no one can be bumped based on race, religion, or any other prejudice based criteria. In some situations, you can try to negotiate with the airline to get the type of compensation you want.

What You Should Ask?

When Frontier airlines outlines the compensation and the alternative transportation plans, be sure to ask questions regarding how any vouchers are supposed to work or of there are any limitations on the compensation you receive. This may help guide your compensation choice, if you have one. You should also ask questions regarding the alternate transportation that they arrange for you, if you decide to take it.
