Amazon has great customer service. They make it so easy to order items and they ship them to you, often times the same day. Luckily they make requesting a refund as easy as ordering the things you need. Here's how to do so.
Cancelling an order before shipment is the most reliable way to get a refund. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Log in to your Amazon account.
2. On the right corner of the menu bar, click the Orders button.
3. Find the order you want to cancel.
4. Select a Reason for cancellation. This step is optional.
5. Click the small checkbox to select the items you want to cancel.
6. Click Cancel checked items.
If your item is already being prepped for shipment, Amazon may accept or
decline your request. Follow the steps above, then click Request
Cancellation to find out whether Amazon will allow you to cancel the order.
Often it's not possible to cancel an order from Amazon, especially after shipment. Amazon may give you the choice of refusing the item at delivery. In this case, the courier is forced to return it.
If you accept the package, you may still be able to return the item to
Amazon and request a refund. Returns and refunds are typically possible if
you don't receive your package in time, if the product you selected is
different from the delivered item, or if you changed your mind after you
saw the product.
To return an item and request a refund:
1. Log in to your Amazon account.
2. On the right corner of the menu bar, click the Orders button.
3. Find the order you want to cancel.
4. Click Problem With Order.
5. Choose your problem from the provided list.
6. Click Request Refund.
7. Enter any comments into the text box.
8. Click Submit.
Amazon may not allow returns and refunds on some items.
If you ordered a product through a Marketplace seller, you have about 30
minutes to cancel it. Use the process listed above for canceling an order.
If more than 30 minutes have elapsed since you ordered, request
cancellation following the same process. Marketplace sellers may accept or
decline your request.
When you cancel an order and the request goes through, it takes a few
minutes to receive a refund. It may take 3-5 days for the amount to appear
on your credit card and up to 10 days for if you used a debit card to pay.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Amazon in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How do I return my order and ask Amazon for a refund to my credit card? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
