Introduction

Returning an unwanted item to Amazon is usually simple. However, since the return and refund process can take up to a month, it's important to know where your package is and when you can expect to receive a refund.

Luckily, tracking your Amazon return is easy. Whether you've returned a damaged or unwanted item, follow these simple steps to find out the status and track your Amazon return.

What You'll Need

In order to track your Amazon return, you will need your Amazon sign-in details. It is also useful if you have the return tracking number, which you can find in the return confirmation email.

Go to the Amazon website

The easiest way to track your Amazon return is through your account. Open a new browser window, type www.amazon.com into the search bar, and hit Enter.

Click on Hello, sign In

It is now time to sign in to your Amazon account. Click Hello, sign in, which you can find in the top-right corner of the Amazon homepage.

Enter your email address or mobile number

Enter the email address or mobile number associated with your Amazon account. Click Continue.

Enter your password

On the new page, enter the password you created when setting up your account. Click Sign in.

If you can't remember the password, click Forgot password? on the right-hand side and follow the instructions to access your account.

Navigate to Returns & Orders

Now that you are in your account, you need to find the return you want to track. Click on Returns & Orders in the top-right.

Find the returned item in the list

You should now see a list of your orders from the past three months. Find the returned item or the order containing the item, and click View Return and Refund Status.

View the tracking details

You will see a page with details on the status of your returned item. Return statuses may include:Return requested on (DATE) - Amazon has received and accepted your return request, but the item has not yet arrived at its warehouse.Refund pending - Amazon has received your item and approved the refund.Refund issued - The return has been processed, and a refund has been issued.Package returned to seller - Your return has been received and forwarded to the seller. With carrier - Your package is still with the carrier.

Check the status using the carrier tracking number

If your package has been collected but is still with the carrier, you can track the parcel on the carrier's website. On the Amazon return status page, you should see a Return Tracking Number. Copy this number.Go to the carrier's website (usually UPS, FedEx, DHL, or USPS).Navigate to the package tracking page.Paste the Return Tracking Number into the search box. This will show you the real-time location of your returned package and provide confirmation when delivery has been made to either Amazon or the seller.

Conclusion

When returning an item to Amazon, you want peace of mind that your refund or replacement isn't too far behind. Tracking the progress of the return via your Amazon account or the carrier's website will keep you up to date on where in the returns process your package is.

Amazon advises that the process can take up to 30 days. If you've been waiting longer for a refund or the return tracking hasn't updated, it's time to contact Amazon customer support for assistance.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Amazon Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
