How Do I Return Verizon Equipment After I've Canceled?

Verizon is one of the big four telecommunication giants in the United States. They offer a wide variety of services including call, text and data services.

When you sign up for Verizon you will be given certain pieces of equipment depending on the services you acquire. The equipment is meant to be used only by Verizon customers.

When you cancel your Verizon service, the company policy requires you to return all the Verizon equipment in as excellent quality as possible. If you fail to return this equipment, you will be charged extra fees when cancelling your Verizon service.

There is a large number of reasons why you may want to cancel your Verizon service and return their equipment. The most common reason is getting a better deal elsewhere which offers better quality service or lower prices.

Another common reason is unsolvable disputes with Verizon. Such disputes may include unwarranted charges, being overcharged or poor service delivery.

Other reasons include moving to an area without Verizon coverage or simply deciding you do not want to use the service anymore.

Regardless of the reason why, you have to return the equipment to Verizon once you cancel your service. Devices you may have to return include the router, DVR and cable box.

Returning the Equipment

You should ensure that you have replaced the Verizon equipment before returning it to avoid any inconveniences. The process of returning equipment to Verizon is as follows:

  1. Launch your web browser and open the Verizon website.
  2. Go to ‘Create Return Kit.' Sometimes the system may not find your information so if it does not you should contact customer support. If it does present your account information, you will see all the pieces of equipment that need to be returned to Verizon for your service to be effectively cancelled.
  3. You should check your email for confirmation of your service cancellation and also of the items that you are supposed to return to the company.
  4. You will be given the option of downloading and printing the label you will use to send the equipment.
  5. Get a strong carboard box and place all the equipment inside.
  6. Wrap the package and place the label you printed onto the box.
  7. Select a carrier of your choice and send back the Verizon equipment. You are responsible for paying the shipping costs for returning equipment.
  8. Wait for confirmation from Verizon that they have indeed received the package with the returned equipment.

You can also return the equipment to a Verizon store. However, you will need to create a return kit online and print a label before doing so.

The system may state that your service cancellation is still pending so you should wait for the service cancellation to be final before returning any equipment. You will then go to a Verizon shop, talk to a shop attendant and they will give you instructions as to how to properly return the equipment.

The last option at your disposal is contacting Verizon customer service. You can also contact them if you are unable to return their equipment by shipping it or leaving it at a Verizon store.

Verizon customer service is very helpful in this regard and will walk you through the process of returning the equipment. However, there are certain things that they cannot change such as if the system has not yet cancelled your service.

You can contact Verizon customer service in several ways including chat, phone and email. You can initiate contact directly from the Verizon customer support page or you can visit GetHuman to attain their contact information.
