You can cancel your Verizon Wireless service if it no longer meets your needs or you find a better plan. It is your right to do so. However, you should recall that you signed a contract with Verizon, and much like a marriage, you are not going to get away for free.

How you cancel your Verizon Wireless service depends on the type of contact you have. There are different penalties when cancelling a two-year contract and when cancelling a month to month contract.

How to cancel your Verizon service if you're on a two-year contract?

If you are on a two year Verizon contract, the only way to cancel your contract is via a call to Verizon Wireless' customer service or visiting a Verizon shop in person. You will need to verify your identity to cancel your service.

There are several types of fees you will have to pay when you cancel your contract including:

Billing charges

You will have to pay the remainder of your Verizon Wireless bill depending on where you are at in the billing cycle.

Early Termination Fees

Early termination fees depend on how far you are into your Verizon contract. If you cancel within 2 weeks of signing the contract, you only have to return your phone and pay the restocking fee.

Only if you cancel within three days of signing are you not eligible to pay activation fees.

If you cancel your contract more than 14 days of signing your contract you will have to pay $350 which decreases by $15 with every month that goes by.

Other early termination fees include prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges and all applicable usage fees.

Equipment Charges

If you had a financing agreement for a device with Verizon, then you will have to pay the remainder of the amount if you cancel your Verizon contract.

The best way to cancel your two year Verizon contract is to tell the customer care representative that you are switching to a new service provider. Relocating to another country is also another good option. No charges are fixed so it depends on how well you relate to the customer service agent to reduce your fees.

How to cancel your month-to-month Verizon wireless contract?

If you are financing your phone and are on a month to month contract, cancelling your contract is somewhat easier. Unfortunately, you also cannot cancel your month to month contract online and instead have to visit a Verizon store physically or contact a live customer service agent.

The good news is that there are no early termination fees when it comes to Verizon Wireless' month to month contract. On the contrary, you will have to pay the remainder of your Verizon bill for the remainder of your billing cycle. You will also have to pay out the device that you are financing.

You may want to keep your number when changing a service provider so that you can keep your contacts. It is also crucial to note that the fees are not stagnant across the board and are applied on a case by case basis.

As seen above, the only way to cancel a Verizon Wireless plan is t get in contact with a customer service representative. The following are the ways you can reach Verizon Wireless' customer care department:

Phone Number

Verizon Wireless' phone line is open Monday to Friday from 7am-11pm and on Saturday and Sunday as from 8am-9pm local time. You can retrieve the phone number from GetHuman.

Live Chat

You can have a live chat with Verizon Wireless agents from Monday to Friday as from 7am-10pm and on the weekend as from 7am-4pm CST. The link to the live chat can be obtained via GetHuman.
