Below are some clips we've found from Better Homes and Garden Magazine's phone menus and tips that help give an idea of what you will encounter when you call. We've highlighted why they are important as well:

Heard when the phone system first answers

"For quality assurance purposes, this call may be monitored or recorded. Welcome to the Better Homes and Gardens customer service system. I'll do my best to help you today. And if I can't, I'll transfer you to someone who can. You will be able to change your address, make a payment, or perform several other transactions in our automated voice system. If you can find the number, say, I can't find it. Please say or key in your account number now."

What are the hours and when should I call?

Better Homes and Garden Magazine operates the call center for this 800-374-4244 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Friday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 589 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).

Automatically call when they open

When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, it will automatically wait until the Better Homes and Garden Magazine call center opens before trying to call. It will ask your permission before it places the call, so you can also further delay that scheduled call until you are ready. But that means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Better Homes and Garden Magazine phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Better Homes and Garden Magazine staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call Better Homes and Garden Magazine is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Monday, which averages 576% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 589 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

We measured the shortest hold times to be on Friday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Monday.
But if you use our free call and talk for me or wait on hold for me service, you don't really need to worry about average wait times.

The best time to call Better Homes and Garden Magazine

In summation, the best day to call Better Homes and Garden Magazine is Friday. It isn't the least busy day, but the fact that hold times are shortest combined with it being on the busy side tells us that Better Homes and Garden Magazine staffs up on Friday to handle the higher call volume, and that makes it the best time to call.

Calling Better Homes and Garden Magazine was effective, although not incredibly informative. When I called, I was told that I could either enter my 10-digit subscription number to get assistance with my account, or I could ask to speak to someone to get assistance with starting a new subscription.

After going through the entirety of the menu, I asked to speak to someone about making a new order. I had to wait about two minutes, but I was quickly able to get connected with a representative, who asked how she could help.

I asked what the cost would be to get a new subscription, and she asked to confirm that I was interested in a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. I confirmed that I was, and she told me that the cost for a subscription would be $22 for a one-year subscription. I asked how many issues I would receive at that price, and she told me that a one-year subscription would cover me for 10 physical issues.

I then asked if there were any other subscription options, as I know that sometimes magazines offer discounts if you subscribe for longer than a year. She told me there were not; my only option would be to subscribe for one year at $22. I thanked her for the information and ended the call.

Overall, I was impressed with the speed of service. I had no problems getting through to someone who could help me, and I was easily able to get the information I wanted. The automated system was easy to navigate and didn't set up a chokepoint to keep out people who weren't yet customers. Based on this interaction, if I was truly interested in a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, I would absolutely use this number.
