Perhaps someone wants to buy your YouTube channel, or you have decided to retire and hand it off to someone else to run. In this case, you need to learn how to transfer ownership of your YouTube channel. This article will teach you how.

YouTube Brand Accounts

You need a YouTube brand account to transfer ownership of your YouTube channel. It is separate from your personal Google account. A brand account allows you to run video ads, use channel branding tools, and use advertising and analytic tools. It also allows you to transfer ownership of your channel. If you don't already have a brand account, you will need to get one and move your channel before you can transfer ownership to someone else.

How to Get a Brand Account

To get a brand account, follow these instructions:

  1. Sign into your YouTube account.
  2. Go to your account page. You will see a list of your channels.
  3. Click on Create a Channel.
  4. Enter the details needed to get a brand account.
  5. Follow the instructions to verify your account.
  6. Click on Create.

How To Connect Your Personal Channel to a Brand Account

To connect your channel to your new brand account, follow these instructions:

  1. Click on your account icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on the Advanced option.
  4. Click on the "move your channel to brand account" option.
  5. Select your personal account channel in the Now section.
  6. Select your brand account in the After Move section.
  7. Click on Move Channel.

How To Change the Ownership of the Channel

Once your channel is connected to a brand account, you can follow these instructions to transfer ownership:

  1. Sign into YouTube as the owner of your brand account.
  2. Click on your account icon.
  3. Select the Settings option.
  4. Click on Add or Remove Manager(s) under the Account header.
  5. Click on Manage Permissions.
  6. Enter your password.
  7. Select a re-authentication method. YouTube requires this step for additional security. You will need to verify your account in one of the following ways:
    • SMS sent to your recovery phone
    • Your backup code
    • Security key if you have one
    • Prompt sent to your mobile device
  8. Select Invite New Users.
  9. Enter the email of the new owner.
  10. Select Primary Owner from the list under the new owner's name.
  11. Click on Invite.
  12. Click on Done.
  13. Wait for the new owner to accept the invitation.
  14. Go back to the Manage Permissions page.
  15. Enter your password.
  16. Re-authenticate it.
  17. You will see a list of people authorized to manage your account.
  18. Locate your name.
