You're probably a little panicked if you just checked your SoFi account and found that it has the wrong balance. After all, a deposit or sale could have gone wrong due to an error either on your part or on the part of SoFi. Your account might have been hacked. Some strange computer error could have shorted your account. You need to take action quickly.

Make Sure the Balance Is Wrong

Before doing anything else, be sure you are right about the balance error. Make sure you didn't simply forget a transaction or do the math wrong.

Change Your Password

If your account was hacked, you should change your password so the hacker cannot continue accessing your account. To change your password, take these steps:

  1. Open the SoFi app and sign into it.
  2. Tap on your name in the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap on the Account Settings tab.
  4. Scroll down until you reach the Change Password section.
  5. Enter a new password. Make sure it's a secure one.
  6. Verify the password.

Contact the Police

If you are sure your account was hacked, you may want to report it to the police. It is a crime, and the police may be able to stop the culprit from doing it again.

Contact the FTC

After you have determined that the balance is wrong and that it is not the result of a Direct Deposit error, you should gather any evidence you have that your balance is wrong, such as transaction records.

Contact SoFi

If you believe your account balance is wrong because someone hacked it or because of some error on SoFi's part, then you need to contact SoFi and alert the people there to the problem. If it is due to a mistake you made, a SoFi representative may be able to help you fix it. You can reach a SoFi customer service representative by phone. There are no options for online contact. You can then ask that representative who you need to talk to. You may need to call back when the relevant departments are open.
