How Do I Setup Two Factor Authorization on My SoFi Account?

Two-factor authentication is a valuable security measure that can help protect your SoFi Invest accounts. It requires two pieces of information — a username (for example, your email address) and a password — to log in to your account. With two-factor authentication enabled, whenever you sign in to your account from an unrecognized device or location, it'll ask for an additional piece of information: a six-digit code sent via text message or phone call.

SoFi strives to make your banking experience as easy and secure as possible. This is why it has implemented two factor-authorization. Below, you will find instructions for enabling the two factor-authorization feature on your SoFi account.

1. Log In to Your Account

To set up two-factor authorization on your SoFi account, you'll need to log in to your account and navigate to your profile page.

Once there, click on the Security link in the menu at the top of the page. You'll find the security settings screen where you can choose from many options for how you want to secure your account.

You'll see an option for two-factor authentication (2FA). Click that and then follow the prompts to set up 2FA on your account.

2. Set Up Your Preferred Method

The next step is to set up a preferred method. If you choose an authenticator app or SMS-based system, you'll link your account and enter the code when it prompts you.

3. Confirm Your Phone Number

You'll enter your phone number to confirm it's yours. You may have to answer a security question or provide additional information to ensure you're the account holder.

Ensure you have access to your phone (It should be turned on and connected to the internet.), as it will receive an SMS message with a code valid for 30 seconds. Enter this code into SoFi's system as instructed, then click Continue.

4. Confirm Your Email Address

Confirm your email address to enable two-factor authentication on your account. You'll need to verify that you're the account holder.

Next, you'll verify that your record is correct and that you have access to the email address associated with this account. You'll also verify that you have access to any phone numbers associated with this account and can receive SMS text messages.

Finally, you will provide a security code from Google Authenticator or a mobile phone number before enabling two-factor authentication on your SoFi account.

5. Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Now that you've set up two-factor authentication, it's time to verify your identity. The first time you log in after enabling this feature, you will receive a verification code on your phone.

Entering this code will complete the setup process and allow you to log in with just one password (your SoFi password) and one code from that point on.

If you lose access to your phone or email address, don't worry. You can use a backup verification method by requesting an SMS or voice call from SoFi at any time. Click Forgot Password on the login screen and select either option from the dropdown menu.
