To buy and sell stocks on SoFi, you need to open a SoFi Active Invest Account. To open one, take these steps:
- Open the SoFi app and sign into it.
- Tap the Invest icon.
- Tap Start Active Investing. The Contact Information page will appear, with most of the fields autofilled.
- Check that the autofilled information is correct.
- Fill in any fields that were not autofilled.
- Tap Next.
- Tap No under "Are you using this account for retirement?"
- Tap Personal Investment Account.
- Tap Next.
- Answer all the questions.
- Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Tap Agree and Continue. You will be asked if you want to link your bank account to your SoFi account in order to transfer funds to it. To link the accounts, follow the instructions below. To skip that step, tap Skip This Step for Now.
- Locate you bank in the bank list and select it.
- Enter login credentials for your bank.
- Tap Next.
- Click the Add Money button.
- Enter the amount of money to transfer.
- Choose an account to transfer from
- Chose your SoFi Invest account to transfer to
- Submit the transfer.
You will receive the money within three business days.
Buying Stocks on SoFi
To buy stocks that you will later sell, follow these steps:
- Log into the app.
- Click on the Invest icon.
- Search for the security you want to buy by name or symbol.
- Tap on the name or symbol.
- Tap on the Buy button.
- Either enter the amount you want to spend or the number of shares you want to buy.
- Tap on the Review button.
- Review the trade.
- Tap on the Buy button.
- Tap on the Done button.
Selling Stocks on SoFi
To sell stocks, follow these steps:
- Log into the SoFi app.
- Click the Invest icon.
- Search for the security you want to sell.
- Tap on the security's name or symbol.
- Tap on the Sell button.
- Enter the number of shares to sell.
- Check the price and the trade information and ensure you want to proceed.
- Tap on the Review button.
- Review the trade.
- Tap on the Sell button.
- Tap on the Done button.
