Introduction

If you get your phone or internet service with Metro by T-Mobile and have decided that it is time to switch to a new carrier, you may be wondering what costs are involved in terminating your Metro by T-Mobile service. Keep on reading to find out more about all potential termination costs.

What You'll Need

If you want to keep your current phone number when you switch to a new service provider, don't cancel your Metro by T-Mobile service right away. Instead, port out your number to your new carrier first. Your Metro by T-Mobile service will automatically be canceled when you port your number. If you try to cancel your service first, you will not be able to keep your number at your new service provider.

There are no termination fees with Metro by T-Mobile.

Metro by T-Mobile offers only pre-paid, month-to-moth service, so there are no early termination fees to pay. This is true even for the 6-Month Prepaid Unlimited 5G Plan.

You will lose the unused time you had left on your current month, if any.

If you cancel your Metro by T-Mobile service before the end of the month you are currently on, you will lose the value of your remaining service days because the company does not offer refunds for unused time.

You will lose the value of your add-ons.

Metro by T-Mobile offers a variety of add-ons, including extra data and access to a variety of streaming services. When you cancel your service, you lose the value of these add-ons, because Metro by T-Mobile also does not offer refunds for add-ons.

There may be device costs associated with your cancellation.

If you financed a device with Metro by T-Mobile, and if you haven't finished paying that device off at the time you cancel, the entire remaining balance will come due at the time you cancel, and this could be a rather significant cost.
Additionally, if you purchased a device on a special promotion that requires a particular service duration, cancellation may involve some kind of a fee. Look at the specifics of your particular promotion to find out more.

There could be unreturned home internet gateway costs.

If you have a Metro by T-Mobile Home Internet plan, you may also have a home internet gateway. In most cases, you have 14 days after the cancellation of your plan to return the gateway to the store you got it from. (You have 60 days to do so on certain plans.) If you do not return the gateway within this time frame, you will have to pay a non-return fee of hundreds of dollars.

There could also be damaged home internet gateway costs.

When you return your Metro by T-Mobile home internet gateway, it must be in undamaged condition. If it is not, you will have to pay a fee for the damage. This fee could also be hundreds of dollars.

Conclusion

To learn more about canceling your Metro by T-Mobile account, and the effects this might have on you, call a Metro by T-Mobile customer support representative to ask about these issues. You can reach one from 4:00 am to 12:00 am PT from Monday through Sunday.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Metro by T-Mobile Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
