Luckily, there are just a few steps you need to take to regain access and delete your account. So, whether you've created a new account or you no longer want to be on the social media giant, read on to learn how to delete an Instagram account when you don't know the password.
Open a new web browser and type www.instagram.com into the address bar. Hit return to go to the Instagram homepage.
As you don't know your password, click on the Forgot password? link on the right-hand side.
In the box beneath Trouble logging in?, type the email or phone number you used when creating your Instagram account. Alternatively, enter your Instagram username if you know it.
Click the blue Send login link button. Instagram will automatically send an email or SMS. If you used your username in the previous step, a pop-up message will let you know whether you will receive an email or SMS.
Check your phone messages or email inbox for something from Instagram. If nothing arrives in your inbox, look in your spam or junk mail folders.
Following the link will open a new browser window. You can now follow the instructions to reset your password, or click on Skip to go straight into your account.
Now that you have full access to your Instagram profile, it's time to delete the account. Hover over the three lines at the bottom of the icon list on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on More, and then click on Settings.
Click on Manage accounts, located at the bottom of the left-hand list. Then select Manage on the right-hand side.
A small screen will pop up. Choose Deactivation or deletion.
You now have two choices: temporarily deactivate your Instagram account or delete it permanently. If you're sure you want to permanently delete your account, check the circle on the right.
If you're sure you want to go ahead with the deletion, click Continue and choose the reason you're leaving Instagram. With each dialogue box that appears, keep selecting Continue.
And, that's it! You have removed yourself from Instagram. All your information and posted content will be permanently deleted after 30 days. You have until then to log back in and reverse the process should you change your mind.
If you want to delete your Instagram account but can't remember the password, help is at hand. Just follow these few easy steps to reset the password and permanently delete your account. Remember, you only have 30 days to reactivate the account if you change your mind.
If you're struggling to access or delete your account, contact Instagram's support team and ask for help.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
After helping consumers for 10 years, we realized that you need an impartial, live person you can talk to about comparing the various TV, cable, Internet and phone plans in your area- somebody who can compare the best deals across telecom providers. So we created a free concierge service you can call at the phone number below.
