Whether your Delta Airlines flight is delayed for a few hours or a day, follow our guide to file a compensation claim.
To complete these steps, you need your Delta Airlines booking confirmation number and flight information. You'll also need to provide copies of receipts for meals, transportation, and accommodation.
Before beginning the claims process, take the time to ensure you're eligible for compensation.
Delta Airlines may pay compensation for expenses incurred when a flight is canceled or delayed by more than 3 hours due to issues within the company's control. It will not reimburse you for delays caused by factors outside of its control, such as extreme weather or air traffic control delays.
If entitled, you can claim out-of-pocket meal expenses, reasonable hotel charges if the flight is delayed overnight, and transportation costs to and from the hotel.
Delta Airlines will not reimburse any prepaid hotel or activity costs, lost wages, or transportation to your final destination.
If you think you're eligible for compensation, you can file a claim online. Open a new browser window and type www.delta.com into the address window. Hit Return.
Move the cursor to Need Help? at the top of the homepage. On the expanded menu, click Request a Refund or Reimbursement on the left side.
You should now see a pop-up window. If you're a U.S. or Canadian citizen looking for compensation for expenses incurred due to a canceled or delayed flight, click Request Reimbursement.
Anyone living outside of the U.S. or Canada will need to complete this form to request compensation.
You now need to complete the Reimbursement Request form by entering your personal details, including name, address, email, and your Delta Frequent Flyer Number (if applicable). Once complete, click Continue to Flight Information.
Enter the details of the delayed flight. You'll need the booking confirmation number, the flight date, flight number, and the origin and destination airports. Once complete, click Continue to Expenses.
You now need to enter the details of all expenses you're claiming for. Choose whether the expense is for hotel accommodation, transportation, or meals, and enter the currency type and amount. Next, upload a photo of the receipt associated with that expense.
Each expense should be listed separately. Click Add Another Expense to add another receipt until all expenses are listed.
Finally, click Submit Request.
It can take up to 4 weeks for Delta Airlines to process your compensation request. Use this link and click Check Reimbursement Status to check the status of your claim.

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible.
