How Do I Redeem My Frequent Flyer Miles for a Flight with Delta Airlines? (Step 1)

Choose a Flight That is Miles Eligible

When selecting a flight, choose one that's Miles Eligible. If you have a Delta Amex card, you may also just click Show Price in Miles.

Click Continue to Review & Pay

If you're not logged in to Delta yet, you'll be prompted to sign in using your SkyMiles number (or username) and password. Once you're logged in, select the “Pay with Miles” option. You can choose to pay entirely with miles or combine miles and cash. If you don’t have enough miles, you can cover the remaining balance with your card.

Note that you must have at least 5,000 miles in your account to see the “Pay with Miles” option. Also, ensure that Delta or a Delta Connection carrier operates your flight; otherwise, the “Pay with Miles” option may not appear. Note that you can also use the Pay with Miles from Delta if you book flights from Partner Airlines. They include KLM, Korean Air, Air France, China Eastern, Virgin Atlantic, and LATAM Airlines.

You can also use your miles to pay for another person’s Delta flight. As long as you have enough miles, you can cover multiple tickets, provided they’re on the same itinerary. There’s no limit to how often you can use your miles, as long as you have enough to cover the cost of your flights. And as mentioned, if your miles fall short, you can always pay the remaining balance with cash.

While you can use your miles to pay for a friend or family member’s flight, you’re not allowed to sell or barter miles. This is prohibited by Delta, and if you’re caught, your miles may be deducted, or your account may be terminated, making them unusable. Also, keep in mind that additional costs such as taxes and other fees may still apply.

If you’re not yet a member of the Delta SkyMiles program, it’s a good idea to sign up and start earning miles. You can redeem them once you have enough to cover a flight or at least 5,000 miles to access the “Pay with Miles” option. They’re especially useful for domestic flights within the U.S., where you can combine miles with cash if needed.
