How and When Can I Upgrade My Safelink Phone

To upgrade your SafeLink phone, you need to ensure that the phone you buy is compatible with SafeLink wireless service. It can be quite frustrating to buy a phone only to find later that it is incompatible. To avoid such mix-up, you need to have proper information on which phone providers have phones that are compatible with SafeLink.

Some examples of cellular phones compatible with SafeLink are LG221c, The Big Easy, Samsung S425G, SamsungT330G, LG 840G and Motorola W376g.

To be sure you have all the right information;

  • You can call your provider to know which phones work best with your service.
  • Do research online on the phone and the features it has and provides.
  • If you are satisfied with the phone, contact your provider and make sure it is the right selection.

If you need any further assistance on the choice of a phone, you contact SafeLink Technical Assistance.

You can upgrade your SafeLink phone by choosing to bring your phone (BYOP) or choosing from a variety of phones they offer.

SafeLink BYOP Program

This program allows you to bring your phone when you are eligible to receive free government phone service. You are entitled to keep your old phone still.

You will need to be eligible for the program. You can determine your eligibility by keying your social security number to the database of your provider. If that is not evidence enough, you can submit proof of your qualification directly to the phone company.

You have a chance to qualify if your income is at or below the Federal Government Poverty Guidelines. If you receive the following government programs, you may also be eligible.

  • Medicaid
  • Veterans and survivors pension benefit
  • Supplemental Security income
  • Supplemental nutrition assistance.

There will not be any need to buy a new SIM Card for your phone since it is compatible with SafeLink Wireless Network. You will receive a free SIM Card in your mail. You will also receive free minutes and services like the internet.

Choosing from a Variety of Phones

This offer is only for those who sign up for a free government phone. Once you sign up, you are provided with a primary phone, but it depends on what is made available. The good thing is that you are not restricted to sticking with it and you can freely upgrade it to the newest available model phones.

When Can I Upgrade My SafeLink Phone

Some people may decide to update the phone they were issued with when they joined the free government phone program. They may need to use a phone which is more modern and has more features.

If you upgrade your SafeLink wireless services, you will automatically be given a free phone upgrade by SafeLink. They will provide a free smartphone.

To receive any SafeLink phone upgrades, you will need to be an eligible member of SafeLink wireless services. You will sign up with them to be a member of the free government phone service.

You can also replace your phone if only it is stolen or lost. This is per SafeLink Wireless Terms and conditions. The company only provides refurbished phones for replacement, and it will only offer 10 minutes of your lost airtime after getting the replacement.

If you are an active, SafeLink recipient, you are qualified to get an upgrade to a new smartphone and still retain your account together with your LifeLine benefits. The cost of upgrading to a smartphone is as from $39.
