Customers can take steps on their own to change their phone number, or receive assistance from customer service. However, simply following a few simple steps, regardless of the method, is all that's needed to change your phone number.
Call Safelink Customer Service
Perhaps the easiest way to change your Safelink phone number is to call customer service. Once connected, let the customer service representative know that you want to change your phone number. The representative will ask for identifying information in order to locate your Safelink account. Part of that information will include your current Safelink phone number. Generally speaking, your phone number is your Safelink account number and your passcode is your phone's six-digit MSL. The account number can also be considered your phone's serial number IMEI or MEID. There is no charge to change your phone number. Also, there is no need to change your SIM card and the new number will be local as well.
Change Number Via Text
In addition to enlisting the help of customer service, you can also change your Safelink phone number by using your device to text the letters MINC to 6111611. This process will walk you through all the steps necessary to make the change without you having to call customer service for help. Once you send a text directly from your Safelink device, follow the prompts to change your phone number. You may also be able to use the Safelink site for more information regarding the directions of how to change your phone number via text.
You Can Switch Your Phone number by Porting an Old Number
Safelink will also allow you to port an old number to your existing Safelink account. However, the number you port must be active. Safelink doesn't charge to port a number. However, these actions must be completed through customer service. Customer service will allow you to port your phone number from a different wireless provider to Safelink via SIM card as well. However, customer service will walk you through all the steps necessary to port your number to Safelink.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
After helping consumers for 10 years, we realized that you need an impartial, live person you can talk to about comparing the various TV, cable, Internet and phone plans in your area- somebody who can compare the best deals across telecom providers. So we created a free concierge service you can call at the phone number below.
