Calling this number connected me to Western Union's money order customer care department. After selecting the language I wanted to be served in, I was presented with a menu. It included options such as checking on the status of a money order, refunding a money order and cashing a money order. This line also gave me the choice to trace a lost money order or report a stolen or altered money order.
There are a couple things you can't do on this line, such as send a money order. For that, you'll need to call a different number or visit your nearest Western Union location. This line is open around the clock and therefore, there's no option to request a callback.
After making a selection for my service, I listened to another recording. Before proceeding further to get assistance with tracking, refunding, cashing or checking the status of a money order, I had to enter the money order number. To make the process as quick as possible, be sure to have this information handy.
To report a lost money order, I was connected to a recording informing me that special handling is required if the receipt for the money order wasn't in my possession. Next, when completing a money order research request, I was told I'd need to complete an authorization form and mail it to Western Union along with a $30 dollar processing fee. The recording then said that if I did have the receipt, a different form would be necessary and only a $15 processing fee is associated with this type of request. The automated recording then told me the mailing address to send the completed forms to as well as the Western Union web address where I could find, download and print the necessary paperwork. I wasn't given the option to connect with an agent if I had any questions or required further clarification.
Overall, it seems that this customer care line is fully automated. Despite calling a couple times and selecting different options while trying to speak with a live representative, I was unable to get anyone to get connected with anyone to answer my questions. Further, the recording didn't refer me to any online FAQ or website where I can find more information. Depending on the type of issue you have and the information you have on hand about your money order, this line may not be helpful in resolving your queries.
