What are the hours and when should I call?
MasterCard operates the call center for this 800-627-8372 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Friday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 845 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, it will automatically wait until the MasterCard call center opens before trying to call. It will ask your permission before it places the call, so you can also further delay that scheduled call until you are ready. But that means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this MasterCard phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like MasterCard staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call MasterCard is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Tuesday, which averages 118% more phone calls by comparison.Again, this is based on a sample of 845 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

Calling this number proved to be almost completely ineffective, as you cannot really use the number if you aren't a MasterCard holder or merchant. That wouldn't be a negative on its own, but the menu sets up in a way that makes people think that they can get information without being able to do so.
When I called, I was first taken to the main menu and asked to choose my language. I was given options of English, Spanish and French before I selected English. I was then asked if I was a MasterCard holder, a merchant or a provider and given an appropriate button to hit for each selection. If I met none of the three, I could choose button no. 4 for information about signing up with MasterCard.
I selected button no. 4 and waited for the system to provide me some information. But all the system gave me was the website to sign up with MasterCard and told me that I could apply for a card there. I waited to see if there would be any other information, but there was not. The system asked me if I would like that information repeated, and I said that I would not. The system then thanked me for calling and automatically hung up the phone.
Overall, I was not impressed with the information available from the call. I get that MasterCard might not want people who are not yet card members to call their phone number, but if that's the case, there's no point to making someone press a button just to get the web address. Simply putting the web address in the menu and telling callers to go there if they need help with getting a MasterCard account would be more helpful.
Based on this, I'd hesitate to use this number, as it seems the setup is wasteful.

Information about why customers call MasterCard is extracted from issues that customers have reported to GetHuman.
As a last, sometimes only, resort- MasterCard customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
