How Do I Run a Network Connection Test on Xbox?

To test your network connection on Xbox, start your console and press the Xbox button on your controller. Select Settings from the menu that appears, then choose Network. Select Network Settings and choose Test Network Connection. Wait a few seconds while the test conducts itself, then look for any red or green lights on the screen and any error message for the connection problem. If no errors are present, you're ready to go.

Connecting to Xbox Live on your console can sometimes be a slow process. The problem could be on your end or your connection to the internet. Running a network test on Xbox is a quick and easy way to test whether everyone else is having connectivity issues or if it's just you. Here are steps you can take to ensure you fix the problem.

1. Start Your Xbox

To run a network connection test on your Xbox, you should connect to the internet. You can do this with a wired or wireless connection:

  • Connect your console to your router using an Ethernet cable and wait for it to connect before continuing to the next step.
  • Press the Xbox button on your controller and navigate to Settings.

2. Select the Settings Tab

You can press the Xbox button on your controller or select the Settings' icon on the home screen. Select Network Settings from within Settings, then select Test Connection at the bottom of that menu. Choose this option rather than Troubleshoot My Network (or something similar).

3. Select Network Connection

Choose the network you want to test, and select Test Xbox Live Network Connection. If your console is connected to any Wi-Fi networks but not the one you're testing, a message will appear asking if you'd like to disconnect from those networks so that all of your connectivity goes through the new connection.

If there are no problems with the network or other devices, a screen should appear confirming this fact. For example, it might say Your Xbox Live connection is working as expected. This means everything's okay with your console's connection; however, it doesn't necessarily mean remote servers are accessible from your system location.

4. Choose Test Network Connection

You'll find a button labeled Test Network Connection from the Network Settings. You can click this button to automatically test your network connection or manually enter your gateway IP address if there's an error with the automatic testing.

5. Wait a Few Seconds While the Test Conducts

Wait for the test to finish. The results will appear in a few seconds. If the bars are all green, you're good to go. If the bars show an X or no icon, you should troubleshoot it again.

6. Confirming a Successful Network Test

Once the test is complete, check that the test results show a check mark, which indicates a successful test.
