How and When Can I Upgrade My Verizon Phone?

Verizon allows you to upgrade to a new device whenever you please. If you are eligible, you may use a monthly device-payment agreement to upgrade. If you are unsure of your eligibility, sign in to ‘My Verizon.' Navigate to the section ‘My Devices.' If a device is labeled ‘Upgrade,' it is ready to be upgraded immediately. If a line is not yet eligible for an upgrade, follow these steps;

  1. Click on the device you want to upgrade
  2. Click on the button ‘Check Upgrade Options' and your eligibility date will be displayed.

Upgrading an Old Device on Your Account to a Newer One that You Already Own

If you already own a device, you can upgrade it using the 'Bring Your Own Device' page in My Verizon.

Upgrading and Keeping Your Plan

  1. Find the ‘Upgrade Device' page in My Verizon on your device
  2. Click on the device you wish to upgrade and click ‘Continue'
  3. Click on the device you want to purchase
  4. Select the color, storage capacity, and your method of payment
  5. Click ‘Next Step'
  6. Review your selection and click ‘Continue'
  7. Click ‘Keep Your Plan' if applicable
  8. Where applicable, follow the prompts to trade in your old device
  9. Review your order and check out
  10. Verify your shipping information and click on the option ‘Place Your Order'

Once you have placed your order, you may be invited to back up your content on Verizon Cloud. The first 30 days of use will be free and you can cancel your subscription whenever you please.

How to Upgrade and Change Your Plan

  1. Navigate to the ‘Upgrade Device' page in ‘My Verizon' on your device
  2. Select the device you wish to upgrade and click ‘Continue'
  3. Click on the device you intend to purchase
  4. Choose the color, storage capacity, and payment option
  5. Click ‘Continue'
  6. Select a device protection option and an accessory bundle
  7. Click ‘Continue'
  8. Click ‘Explore the new plan'
  9. Select the plan you want and click ‘Add plan and go to cart'
  10. Review your choices and check out
  11. Verify your shipping details and select your shipping method
  12. Click ‘Place your order'

Switching Upgrades with Someone Else

With Verizon, it is easy to transfer an upgrade from one line to another. If you have multiple devices on your account and you qualify for an upgrade, you can transfer the eligibility to a different line. Follow these steps to transfer upgrade eligibility between different lines;

1. Go to the page ‘My Devices' in My Verizon

2. Select a device shown as ‘Upgrade eligible'

3. Click on the option ‘Transfer upgrade. 'If you don't find the Transfer Upgrade link, you are not eligible to transfer your upgrade eligibility.

4. Select the mobile number you wish to transfer to

5. Click ‘Transfer'

If you are not eligible for an upgrade, you may pay a retail price for your upgrade.
