How Do I Report That Someone Used My Credit Card Illegally on Uber?

This article describes what to do if you think that your credit card has been used illegally for Uber rides. It provides instructions for when your credit card information has been stolen and also for when your Uber account has been hacked, which are the only two ways the illegal credit card use could occur.

There are two ways that someone could have used your credit card illegally on Uber. One is if your credit card details have been stolen and used on Uber. The other is if somebody has gained access to your Uber account and used it to order rides for themselves.

If you have been seeing Uber charges on your credit card for rides that you did not take, then follow these instructions:

  1. Contact your credit card company and tell them about the fraudulent charges right away. Cancel the card if it was stolen. Although state laws vary, you may have the right to dispute some or all of the charges.
  2. Change your PIN and passwords.
  3. Request a copy of your credit report to look for other fraudulent activity.
  4. Go to Uber's online help page, which can be found here.
  5. Click the Contact Us link.
  6. Click the Email link.
  7. Enter your email address in the text box provided.
  8. Click on City.
  9. Enter the city the trip took place in.
  10. Click 'What is your question about?'
  11. Click "My recent trip.'
  12. Click 'I have a question about my fare.'
  13. Write an explanation in the text box provided.
  14. Click the Submit button.

If Your Uber Account was Hacked

If you have been receiving texts from drivers about pick ups you didn't request, or see trips you didn't take on your Uber account, or see charges that you didn't make, then use these instructions in addition to the instructions above.

  1. Log in to your Uber account.
  2. Select Help from the app menu.
  3. Select 'I can't sign in or request a ride.'
  4. Select 'I forgot my password.'
  5. Enter your mobile number.
  6. Enter the reasons why you think your account was compromised in the 'Share details' text box.
  7. Enter the email linked to your Uber account in the lower text box.
  8. Complete the CAPTCHA.
  9. Click the Submit button.
  10. Follow the instructions that are sent you to reset your Uber password.

Please note that Uber does not have any customer support phone number. If these steps are not enough to resolve the issue with them, you will not be able to call and speak to anyone in person.
