Understanding Hilton's Cancellation Policy

It is important to note that cancellation of a stay at a Hilton operated location depends on the type of reservation a person has made because, like many hotel chains, Hilton allows individuals several pricing options when making a reservation. Below are Hilton Hotel stay options along with the cancellation policy for each:

Standard Room Rate

This is the most common booking rate, and cancellation of this room can be made any time up to the day before the start of the reservation. For example, if the stay begins on July 1, the reservation can be cancelled without penalties up to 11:59 p.m. on June 30.

Flexible Rate

Another popular rate when booking, flexible rate reservations can be cancelled in the same way as standard room rate cancellations.

Honors Discount

For Hilton Honor's members, the program offers room reservations at a lower rate than standard or flexible rate bookings. Cancellation policy for this booking, however, remains the same as listed for standard room rate above.

Semi-Flex

Semi-flex rooms offer some advantages of flexible rate, however, the cancellation timeframe is not as expansive as standard, flexible or honors reservations. A room booked for July 1 must be cancelled on or before 11:30 p.m. on June 26, five days prior, to avoid cancellation fees or penalties.

Honors Discount Semi-Flex

As with semi-flex mentioned above, cancellations can be made up to five days prior to the stay without penalties.

Non-Refundable

While these reservations can be cancelled, the traveler is notified at the time of the booking that a refund of the full stay amount is unavailable since this is a pre-paid room. Hilton's policy also states this reservation cannot be modified; however, this is handled on a case-by-case basis.

Honor Discount Non-Refundable

As with non-refundable mentioned above, this reservation cannot be cancelled, modified or the traveler simply doesn't show without forfeiting the entire prepaid reservation amount.

Two Times Points

For travelers seeking double points on their Hilton Honors stay, this reservation can be canceled or modified up to one day prior to the stay without penalty.

How to Cancel

Cancellations can be made online or through the Hilton Mobile App. For reservations that do allow refunds, including reservations made with Hilton Honors reward points, the charge will not be made on the credit or debit card used for the reservation, and points will be refunded to your reward's account.

Reservations can be cancelled in the app or online by logging into your Hilton account, finding the reservation you wish to cancel in the upcoming stays on your account and select "Cancel This Reservation" or "Cancel Reservation."
