Helpful Tips to Avoid Lost Baggage (And Get Your Luggage to You Sooner)

  1. Fly non-stop whenever you can when possible.
  2. Don't place anything you might need within 24 hours in your checked baggage, like medications or business presentations.
  3. Use TSA-accepted luggage locks. Only you and the TSA are capable of opening them.
  4. Include your contact information, such as cell phone number or email address, and a copy of your itinerary with your luggage in case your luggage needs to be opened to determine ownership. Use a sturdy luggage tag that won't tear off.
  5. Take a picture of your luggage with your cell phone, this will help in case you do need to make a claim.
  6. Get to the baggage claim chute right away and be there when the luggage begins to come out and check to make sure everything's inside the bags before you leave the baggage claim chute.
  7. Shipping your luggage directly to the hotel is always an option. The hotel will accept and hold your luggage until you arrive, plus the fees to ship over-sized and overweight luggage can be less with shipping than with your chosen airlines.
