How Do I Get Compensated for My Hawaiian Airlines Flight Being Delayed?

A delayed flight can really throw a wrench in your travel itinerary. It can make you miss your connecting flight, waste your hotel reservations, force you to book extra nights at a hotel, and in general just waste your time. If you have suffered losses due to a delayed flight with Hawaiian Airlines, you may be entitled to seek compensation. The exact amount of compensation varies with the circumstances.

For Flights Originating in the EU

In the US, airlines are not required by law to provide compensation for delayed flights. In the European Union, though, things are different. If your flight originated in the EU you are entitled to compensation for certain delays even on a non-EU carrier such as Hawaiian Airlines. If your flight was delayed for three or more hours and your destination was inside the EU, you are entitled to compensation between $300 and $400, depending on the distance involved. The compensation is $360 for destinations outside the EU.

Hawaiian Airlines Delay Compensation Policy

Hawaiian Airlines' own policy on refunds for delayed flights is as follows:

• If no part of the trip had been taken before the delay, they will refund the fare and any charges that have been paid.
• If part of the trip has been taken, the difference between the fare and the value of the portion that was taken will be refunded.
• If you purchased a flight with a discount then you are eligible for compensation in the amount of your fare minus the discount and certain charges.

How to Make the Refund Request

1. Go to Hawaiian Airlines' home page.
2. Click on the Sign In button in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Sign in to your account.
4. Click on the Contact Us link in the upper right corner of the screen.
5. Click on the Send Us an Email link under the Email header.
6. Click on the Make a Request button in the middle of the screen.
7. Select Refund from the Topic drop down menu.
8. Select Change / Cancellation Fees from the Subtopic drop down menu.
9. Fill out your contact information in the spaces provided.
10. Enter your traveler information in the fields provided, including your flight number, ticket number, and confirmation code.
11. Attach any files you think are relevant to your request.
12. Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the form.
