How Do I Exchange an Item from Apple?

Apple is one of the largest companies in the world and deals in electronic devices such as computers, phones and tablets. They also sell software and other online services. You can buy any of their products or services from a physical store or from their online store.

Apple receives a vast sum of orders every day so mistakes happen occasionally. They may send you a damaged product or a wrong item altogether.

When they do, you should return the item to Apple and ask for it to be exchanged with the product you want. However, before you do so you should be well versed in Apple's return policy.

Apple's Return Policy

The first of Apple's return policies is that you have 14 days from an item's delivery date to return it. you can only return Apple products that have been bought directly from an Apple store or their online store.

If you want to return an Apple product bought from a third party, you have to adhere to the latter's return and exchange policies.

The Apple product you are returning should be in its original form. It should have all the cords, adapters and documents it had when it was delivered.

Not all Apple items are eligible to be returned to the company. There are exceptions including used software, downloaded software, software upgrades, Apple gift cards, Developer products and printed Apple products.

However, if you bought software from Apple and have not used it or installed it into any computer, you can return it. the seal and the sticker on the software have to be unbroken for the return to be accepted.

You cannot return personalized items or customized products for an exchange to an Apple store.

Now that you know Apple's return policies, you can start returning the item to the company.

Exchanging an Apple Item

Exchanging In-store Purchases

In order to get an exchange for an Apple item, you have to first return it. Luckily, it is quite a straightforward process.

You have two options for returning an Apple product for an exchange. The first is to return it to a brick and mortar Apple store. You can return an Apple product to any store in the United States but the closest one should do just fine.

If you don't know of any Apple stores in your area, you should use Apple's Retail Store locator tool online. Once in the store, speak to an Apple specialist and they will be happy to assist you.

You should note that an immediate exchange is not guaranteed as exchanges are subject to availability of the item in Apple's stock. Therefore, it is a good idea to call Apple store customer service to ensure that they have the item you are returning in stock.

Exchanging Online Purchases

If you want to exchange an item that you bought online, either due to damage or the wrong item being delivered, you can return them to an Apple store or ship them back to the company.

The process of shipping your Apple item involves the following steps:

  1. Launch your web browser and open the Apple store.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Open the ‘Order Listings' page.
  4. You should see a list of your recent orders.
  5. Select an item to be redirected to the order details page.
  6. Click the ‘Start a Return' link under the item you want to return and subsequently click ‘Get Started.'
  7. On the subsequent page, select the items that you would like to return from your order and then click ‘Initiate Your Return.'
  8. Read the instructions provided and then print the return shipping label. You will have to print multiple labels for multiple returns. Using the original packaging is always recommended.
  9. Arrange a pickup with the carrier you want to use or drop it off at the closest location.
