Introduction

AT&T offers reliable internet services, but some subscribers may not be satisfied with their current plans and decide to downgrade. Before changing your plan or contacting AT&T, we advise getting in touch with technical support first, as they may be able to help with your internet connection. If you still want to downgrade your service, read this article for the step-by-step guide on how to do it. However, note that there may be fees associated with downgrading a service.

Sign In To Your AT&T Account

Before you can make changes to your package, log in to your account first. Enter your user ID and click Continue.

Go to Your AT&T Account Overview

You should be able to change or downgrade your account from there.

Click Manage My Plan

Choose internet and tap on Manage My Plan. Then, follow the prompts on how to downgrade your AT&T internet service. If you're unable to downgrade, consider contacting AT&T and asking them to downgrade the service for you. To contact AT&T, use the steps below.

You may be subject to an early termination fee, especially if you have only been using the service for a few months.

If you were able to downgrade the service, but the equipment was damaged, you may be responsible for paying a replacement fee for this. For questions regarding early termination fees and other fees associated with downgrading a service, please get in touch with AT&T directly.

Chat With a Representative

Can't downgrade a service? Chat with a representative and ask why you can't change your internet service. They should be able to provide you with a good reason and offer a better solution to your issue. Just tap Chat and enter your question in the chat box. Just follow the on-screen prompts, and if this still doesn't work, consider calling AT&T directly. We'll show you how in the next step.

Give Them a Call

If you can't reach them via chat, feel free to give them a call. However, call only during business hours, and that's from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm CST. They're open 9 am-7 pm CST on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays.

Do you prefer to speak to a representative in person? Why not visit an AT&T store instead? Check out the next step on how to look for a store near you.

Visit a Store Near You

Enter your zip code, city, or state to find AT&T stores in your area. Consider scheduling a visit by calling them first. Tap on Get Directions to know how to get there. Don't forget to bring valid identification, so they can proceed with your request.

Conclusion

Did you download the AT&T app? You can also conveniently downgrade your service through the app. Simply log in to your account and tap Change or Manage My Plan and follow the on-screen instructions. If you're planning to downgrade by calling AT&T or by visiting a store, have your account details ready, as the representative will need to make sure you are indeed the account holder. But before downgrading, check whether you can take advantage of a higher discount or are eligible for a bundled service. Still have questions about downgrading? Get in touch with Support today.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for AT&T U-Verse Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
