Introduction

If your AT&T internet service goes down, you are probably eager to get it up and running again as soon as possibly. After all, many of the important things you do are online. If you want to get the problem fixed, you must learn how to report a service outage to AT&T. However, before you do, there are a few other things you need to do to see if there is actually a service outage and to make sure that AT&T doesn't already know about it.

What You'll Need

If your internet service has gone down after a storm, and if you can see a downed line, do not touch or go near it. Make sure you tell the AT&T representative you call about the location of the downed line. It may help them diagnose and repair the problem more quickly.

There are a number of websites meant to tell you about interrupted internet services, but all they do is republish data the companies themselves put out. They will always lag behind AT&T's own service outage page information.

Go to the AT&T home page.

AT&T home page

Click on the Account link in the upper right corner, then select the Sign In option from the drop down menu that appears.

Sign in to your AT&T account.

Go to your account page.

Look for notifications that your account has been suspended for some reason, such as late payments.

If an account suspension is not the problem, go to the AT&T internet speed test page and run a speed test on your computer's internet connection.

If your account is in good standing, the next thing to do is to see if the problem is just a poor connection or something similar that has brought your browsing to a crawl.

If there is some kind of problem with your connection and not the service itself, follow the prompts the speed test page gives you to try to troubleshoot or fix the problem. If you cannot figure the problem out yourself, call AT&T's customer support for help.https://gethuman.com/phone-number/AT-T

Go to the AT&T service outage page.

If your connection isn't the problem either then it's probably a service outage. However, before you report the problem, check to see if AT&T already knows about it.

Select AT&T Internet from the services drop down menu.

Enter your state and zip code in the text boxes provided.

Click on the Check for Outages button.

If you don't find any notification of an outage in your area, report the outage to AT&T by calling a customer service representative.

Conclusion

Once you report the problem, technicians will quickly get to work diagnosing and repairing the problem. All you need to do is periodically check to see if your service has been restored yet. If you have any questions or problems, call an AT&T customer service representative for assistance. The customer service center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for AT&T U-Verse Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
