If you have Navient student loans then there are a number of different payment plans you could qualify for. Any federal Navient loans you have could qualify for an income-driven repayment plan, which includes forgiveness of part of the loan. There are also a number of private sector programs that can help you get lower repayment plans for private Navient loans.

Student loans can be a serious burden, so if you have student loans, you are probably looking to do everything you can to get on a good payment plan. If you have Navient student loans, there are some favorable payment plans you might qualify for. This article will help you find out if you could qualify for any of these repayment plans.

Federal Navient Student Loan Payment Plans

If your Navient loans are federal instead of private, you might qualify for one of these plans:

  • Income-Driven Repayment: Navient federal loans qualify for income- driven repayment plans. Your payment plan will be based on your income, so if you have a low income, you will typically have to make low monthly payments for a longer, possibly 25 year, term. If your income is low enough, you won't have to make any repayments. At the end of the term, you could even get the remainder of your loan forgiven, if you made all of your payments on time.
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness: If you work in a public sector job, or for a non-profit organization, you could qualify for 10 years of income-driven payments followed by loan forgiveness.

Private Navient Student Loan Payment Plans

Your private Navient loans don't qualify for any of the federal repayment plans. However, there is a variety of private sector programs the can help you refinance your loans and get a more affordable payment plan. Some of these plans are for people working in specific sectors or for certain organizations, like the National Health Service Corps. To find out if you qualify for any of these programs, contact Navient and ask about them.

If you don't Qualify for a Special Plan

If you don't qualify for any of the special low rate payment plans then you will have to make payments at the standard rate. In other words, you will have to have the same plan that everyone else with a loan of your size and interest rate has.
