What Do I Do If My Facebook Account Is Disabled and I Have a Government ID?

This Gethuman guide helps Facebook users recover an account disabled by Facebook administrators. Users can provide one form of government-issued identification or a few forms of other identification that matches the information on their Facebook profile. Since Facebook doesn't accept any digitally altered photos, users are reminded not to edit their photos, but they can physically cover up any sensitive information before taking a photo or scanning the document.

You'll know your account was disabled by the pop-up displayed above the login window when you attempt to login. Your Facebook account may have been disabled because it was hacked or an image was reported for violating Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. If you have problems recovering your disabled account you feel was wrongfully disabled, contact Facebook Customer Service.

How To Recover Your Disabled Facebook ID with Government ID

To recover your facebook account, you'll need:

  • Login email address or phone number

  • Your full name

  • Photo(s) of ID (preferably in JPEG format)

Facebook accepts various forms of government-issued identification. To be considered valid, the form of ID must display your name and date of birth or your name and photo. You'll need to provide one of the following:

  • Passport

  • Official name change paperwork

  • Voter ID

  • Tribal ID or status card

  • Driver's license

  • Personal or vehicle insurance card

How To Recover Facebook without Government ID

Facebook will need two forms of non-government-issued ID, including:

  • Mail

  • Check

  • Permit

  • Transit card

  • Utility bill

  • Credit card

  • School ID card

  • Library card

  • Paycheck stub

  • School record

  • Medical record

  • Bank statements

  • Social Security card

  • Employment verification

  • Magazine subscription stub

  • Membership or work ID

Or, if you don't have a form of identification that displays all the necessary information (real name, photo, or date of birth), you can provide an additional form of identification that will match information listed on your Facebook profile, but not the other forms of identification you provided. In all, you will be providing three forms of identification:

  • Two forms of identification from the secondary group listed above

  • One more form of identification that includes a date of birth or photo that matches the information on your Facebook profile.

Please keep in mind, Facebook protects your privacy and security by providing an encrypted form to submit your forms of ID. To prevent fake forms of identification, Facebook doesn't accept any photos that have been edited or altered in any way. However, you can physically cover any personal information on your ID before you take a photo of the document, such as ID numbers and social security numbers.
