How Do I Return an Item from Target?

If you have an issue with an item from Target and want to return your item, this article will help you.

You shop at Target because the store is known for its competitive pricing. However, you would like to return an item, but you are unfamiliar with the process. Fortunately, the Target returns process is simple and can be done in-store or via mail.

To find out how to return an item from Target, read this simple guide.

Determine if Your Item is Eligible for Return:

Target operates a 90-day return policy. So, if you bought your item more than 90 days ago, it is unlikely you can return the product.

Additionally, some items cannot be returned within the 90-day return period. Non-returnable items include:

  • Open movie, music, and video games
  • Open airbeds
  • Personalized items
  • Gasoline-powered items
  • Giftcards

However, some items that are not eligible for a return may be eligible for replacement.

Returns Via Mail:

Navigate to the Target Website:

To begin the process, visit the Target website homepage.

Once you have navigated to the homepage, access your online account by clicking the "Sign In" button, which can be found next to the search bar in the top right-hand corner on the screen.

From the drop-down menu, click the "Sign In" option, enter your login details as requested, and then click the red "Sign In" button.

If you're unable to access your account, select the "Forgot Password?" hyperlink underneath the red "Sign In" button to reset your account information.

Locate Your Order:

If you've successfully logged into your account, find and select the "Order" tab. You should now be able to view all of your recent Target order. Find the order containing the item you want to return and select it.

Once you have selected the correct order, click on the "Return an Item" link and choose the "Return By Mail" option.

Next, you need to select the item you want to return, choose the reason for your return from the drop-down menu, click "Continue," and choose whether you would like to replace the item or receive a refund. Select continue and enter your shipping address as instructed.

Once you have completed this process, click on the "Print Mailing Label" button to print your return label.

Return the Item:

Now that you have printed your return label, adhere it to the outside of your return parcel so the address is clearly visible.

Finally, visit your nearest UPS location and send your parcel for a return. When returning an item, it is advisable to request a return receipt in case there are any issues with the process.

In-Store Returns:

Items purchased online and in-store can be returned to any Target location.

To return your item in-store, log into your online Target account, locate the order and item you need to return, and choose the "Return To Store" option. You will be provided with a barcode that you need to present to the Target team in-store.

If These Steps Are Unsuccessful:

If you have closely followed these steps but still cannot return your item from Target, contact the company directly.

You will find the Target contact details on the GetHuman website.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Target Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
