What You'll Need

Square will never ask you to provide your password, username, social security number, card details, or bank account details by email, text, or call. If you receive an email, text, or call that purports to be from Square asking for any of these things, do not respond in any way. Contact Square immediately and report the incident.Do not click on any links or open any attachments in any suspicious email or text that seems to be from Square. Some merchants place a temporary hold on your checking account for a larger sum than your purchase, particularly car rental companies and gas stations. Make sure that this is not the case before disputing a charge on your Square debit card.

To report a suspicious email to Square, forward the email to their fraudulent email department at spoof@squareup.com.

To get a refund, skip to step 3.
To get a refund for an inappropriate charge on your Square debit card, skip to step 5.

To report a suspicious call or text, you will need to call a customer service representative.

Square customer service center

If you did not receive the goods you purchased from a Square seller, or if you were overcharged, then the first thing to do is contact the seller and try to work it out with them.

Most of the time, the issue will prove to be a mistake rather than a matter of deliberate fraud, and contacting the seller is the quickest way to work things out.

If you cannot work things out with the seller, or if the seller does not respond to you in a timely fashion, contact your bank and file a chargeback dispute.

Square processes payments and provides other business services, but it has no way to process payment dfisputes. If you want a refund then your bank provides the only option for you to pursue. Follow your bank's instructions for handling the chargeback dispute.
Do not proceed with subsequent steps.

Contact the seller, if possible, and try to resolve the dispute with them before involving Square.

Go to the Square home page.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Square Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
