Introduction

Did you forget your Square password, or do you think your account may be compromised? You can reset your Square password to secure your account. To successfully reset it, you need access to the email address associated with your Square account. If you think your account may have been hacked, we recommend changing your password right away. Read this guide, and we'll show you the steps on how to reset your password from the login page.

Visit the Reset Your Password Page

Enter your email address and click Send Instructions.

Check Your Inbox for Instructions

If you can't find the email in your Inbox, check Spam or the Promotions tab (for Gmail accounts).

Click Reset Your Password

The subject of the email is "Reset your Square password." Open the email and click on 'Reset Your Password". We recommend resetting your password ASAP because the link sent by Square expires in 24 hours.

Enter Your New Password and Confirm It

Type in your new password in the New Password and Confirm Password boxes. Be sure to use a strong password for security purposes. Make sure the passwords you entered match. Then, click Reset Password.

Wait for the message that says Your Password Has Been Reset.

Check the Email for Confirmation

After a password reset, Square sends a confirmation email stating that your password has been updated. If you receive this message but did not make the change, it may indicate unauthorized access to your account. For security, click Update Password to change your password immediately.

To add an extra layer of protection for your Square account, we recommend setting up two-step verification. You'll need either an authentication app or a mobile number to set this up. Your verification options include receiving a text message, a voice call, or using the authentication app. Some users may not want to enter a code every time they log in, so in this case, you can select Remember This Device. This way, you only need the verification code every 90 days. Ready to set up your two-step verification? Proceed to the next steps.

Sign Back in and Go To Settings

Click Account & Settings

Click Personal Information

Click Sign In & Security

Go to Two-Step Verification and Click Enable

Select Text Message

If you want to use a mobile number, choose the text message option. Click Next.

Enter Your Mobile Number

Type in your mobile number and click Continue. Check your phone and enter the verification code, and click Verify.

Square users can also create a passkey for their account, allowing them to log in quickly and securely. To create a passkey, simply click on Create a Passkey just above the two-step verification and follow the prompts. With a passkey, you won't have to enter your password each time you sign in to Square.

Conclusion

Were you able to reset your password? Note that you can also change your password when logged in. To update your password, go to Settings - Account & Settings - Personal Information - Sign in & Security. Click Update beside the password to change your password. Simply type in your new password and click Confirm.

You may want to consider changing your password if you got an email about a security breach or if someone else might have access to your account. Still have further questions? Contact Customer Support today.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Square Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
