What Happens If I Return a Chegg Book Too Late?

Chegg is an American educational company with about 4 million subscribers. They offer services such as textbook rentals (both physical and digital) and online tutoring among others.

As far as textbook rentals are concerned, they are usually rented out with a specific due date just as in a traditional library. Therefore, you need to return the book before or on the due date as agreed between you and the company.

The good news is that Chegg has a very clear-cut return policy as we will see below. There is a different policy for returning digital textbooks and that for electronic textbooks.

Chegg's Physical Textbook Return Policy

If you no longer need the textbook you rented from Chegg or chose the wrong textbook, then you can return it to the company within three weeks of ordering the book.

The process of doing so is as follows:

1. Launch your web browser and open the Chegg website.

2. Log in to your Chegg account.

3. Proceed to printing the return label from the company. You will have to pay a small fee for it.

4. Pack the book or books securely in a box and wrap it securely. Ensure you include the prepaid return label.

5. Check the return label which will tell you the shipping company you will use to return the book which is usually FedEx or UPS.

6. Find a drop off location for the shipping company and take the box there.

You should note that it can take up to two weeks to process a return request after you have dropped it off at a shipping carrier. The company will then email you when they receive your package. They will message you about each book individually.

They will also email you when your refund has been confirmed. You will then receive a refund within 5 days bar for the shipping costs.

Chegg's Electronic Textbook Return Policy

You need to return electronic textbooks to Chegg within 2 weeks of renting them. You do so by simply cancelling the order using the process outline below:

1. Launch your web browser and open the Chegg website.

2. Log in to your Chegg account.

3. Proceed to your list of electronic textbook orders.

4. Find the order that you would like to cancel.

5. Click the drop-down menu icon to see your options.

6. Click 'Cancel.'

You should note that you cannot return an electronic textbook if you have reached your print limit for the book even though you return it within 2 weeks.

For some books, you will have to return the digital access code. However, you can still receive a refund for such returns.

Returning Books Past Their Due Date

Now that you know Chegg's return policy, you should know what happens when you return books beyond their due date. There are two types of fees to be paid when you return Chegg books past their due date.

The company allows you to extend your book's due date by ten days to give you more time to finish using the book. However, you will have to pay a fee for the extension.

The other fee you have to pay is the book's purchase fee. It is the fee you will have to pay when you return the book beyond its extended due date.

The fee includes the price of the textbook after deducting the rental and extension fees that have been paid prior. If you return the book within a week of being charged this fee, it can be refunded.
