When you call the customer service phone number for Chegg, you're greeted by an automated message system. Interestingly, the system says you're able to receive assistance via SMS (texting or messaging service) by pressing 1, as well as online. Callers are specifically directed to Chegg's FAQ section on their website for frequently asked questions and answers. After this opening message, you're told to stay on the line and wait for the next available representative.

Initially, I wasn't sure how receiving assistance via SMS would actually work, so I decided to press 1 and check it out. I was informed that I would receive a text message from Chegg to the phone number I was calling from, which is interesting! (I hung up and called back, as I don't actually want SMS customer service; I was just curious how it would work.)

I imagine this would be a great option for many individuals, especially those who are neurodivergent and/or have anxiety disorders. However, it wouldn't work with a landline number, so that's something to potentially keep in mind.

Secondly, the fact that the automated message system is short and nearly immediately begins routing callers to a real human being? That's great. Most people don't enjoy navigating clumsy and convoluted automated message systems set up by companies that don't seem like they actually want to interact with customers. I was connected to a representative quickly; my wait time was maybe two minutes, and they were very friendly and helpful.

An additional language option would be a great addition, such as Spanish or French, to increase caller accessibility, but aside from that critique, the automated messaging system was decent (something I never say), and the rep I spoke to was great!
