Before adding an authorized user, make sure your account is in good standing. Capital One generally allows you to add an authorized user to most of their credit cards, including popular options like the Capital One Venture Rewards card and the Savor card. If you have a secured card, there may be restrictions. The authorized user will receive their own card with their name on it. There are some limits on what the authorized user may do. For example, an authorized user can’t close the account or make changes to the address. Keep in mind that Capital One may run a soft credit pull on the new user. Note: You must be the primary cardholder, secondary cardholder, hold power of attorney or be the account manager to add a user.
To add the user, you’ll need the full name of the individual as it appears on their government-issued ID, their date of birth and their Social Security number (SSN). You’ll also need to provide their full mailing address and phone number. Capital One requires a minimum age of 13 for all authorized users.
The easiest way to add an authorized user is to navigate to capitalone.com and sign in with your username and password. If you haven’t used the mobile app yet, download the Capital One mobile app from the App Store or Play Store. After logging in, navigate to the “Accounts” section. Find the card you want to add the user to and click the button to open the account details page.
Once you’re in the account details, search for the “Control Your Card” drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Hover over this menu and select “Add account user” then, from the two options, select “Authorized user.”
Fill out the new user's information, which includes their name, date of birth, Social Security number, phone and email address. Note that adding the full Social Security number is optional, but the individual will need to include this information to obtain online access to the account. After entering the information, press “Continue” and wait for approval. If approved, the new card can take 7 to 10 business days to arrive.
Adding an authorized user to a Capital One credit card is a simple way to share access while maintaining complete control over your credit. By following the steps above, you’ll have a new card mailed out within days.

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
