As a Capital One account holder, you may have signed up for auto payments, but wish to cancel the service. Capital One provides three ways to cancel auto payments that are not currently processing: online, through the mobile app, or via telephone. Auto payments to and from the account can be canceled and a new auto pay series can be established that better fits the customer's needs.

Auto payments are one of the many features offered to Capital One account holders, but when you don't want to continue the service or need to make changes to existing auto pay series, how do you cancel an existing auto payment? Canceling an Auto Payment to Your Account Via Mobile Device or Computer

Capital One allows account holders to cancel their auto payments via their computer or mobile device. Just follow the steps listed here:

  1. Open Capital One's website in your browser or the app on your mobile device.
  2. Log into your account.
  3. Navigate to "manage AutoPay series."
  4. Select "cancel auto pay" to stop automatic payments on the account.

Be aware, auto payments that are processing cannot be canceled, so it is important to log into your account well before the next scheduled payment to cancel the process.

Once the current auto payment has been canceled, you can go into the account to set up a new series. Many customers do this when they wish to either increase the amount of the monthly payment to reduce the debt quickly, decrease the monthly payment, or when they wish to only pay the minimum balance on the account.

Canceling Recurring Auto Payments From Your Capital One Account

Customers also have the option to set up a recurring payment from their Capital One account. To cancel payments coming out of your account, you can do the following:

  1. Log into your account with the merchant, or call that merchant's customer support line and opt out of auto payments.
  2. Contact Capital One's customer service line and inform the representative that you no longer authorize automatic payments from your account to the vendor or merchant.
  3. Monitor your Capital One account after stopping auto payments from coming out of your account.
  4. If the merchant is still charging your Capital One account after you have ended auto payments, you can dispute the charges and request a refund.
