If you have a Capital One account and want to transfer money as quickly as possible to another bank, the fastest way to do it is by wire transfer. To learn how to send a wire transfer from your Capital One account, keep reading this article.

Wire Transfer Basics

A wire transfer is a transfer of money directly from one bank to another, sent electronically. It doesn't go through a clearinghouse, so it's the fastest way to move money from one bank to another. If you're transferring funds to another bank in America and start the transfer before 2:00 p.m. EST, your wire should get there on the same day. If you send it later than 2, it will arrive on the next day. If you're transferring the funds to a bank in a different country, it will take multiple days.

However, because wire transfers don't go through a clearinghouse, they can't take advantage of a clearinghouse's savings. So they are also rather expensive. They're best for situations where speed is critical, especially when the transfer amount is large.

How to Send a Wire Transfer from Your Capital One Account

To send a wire transfer, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the Capital One home page.
  2. Sign in.
  3. Select the account you want to use to send the funds.
  4. Click on Account Services & Settings.
  5. Click on Wire Money.
  6. Enter the required information for the recipient.
  7. Submit the form.

If you are wiring the money to an external, linked account, all you need to enter is the account holder's name and the routing number for the account's bank. If you are sending it to a person or a company, you will need to enter the recipient's name, address, recipient's bank's name and address, recipient's bank's routing number, and the recipient's account number.

You will have to pay a $30 fee for the transfer. If your recipient has a high-yield checking account, essential checking account, or essential savings account, they will need to pay a $15 to receive the transfer. Otherwise, they will not need to pay a fee to receive it.
