When British Airways Changes Your Seat

There are times when British Airways may have no choice but to change your seat. Even though it may be an uncomfortable occurrence, it may have to happen. They may change your seat even after you board the aircraft. The most common reasons for changing your seat include operational and security reasons.

They will try to give you an alternative seat that matches your needs. If you are traveling with a group, they may try to seat you together. They will try to match your preference for the window, aisle, or middle seat. If you do not get a suitable alternative, you can apply for a refund.

You may claim your refund for reserved seats within 30 days after the completion of the last flight. You also need to meet the following conditions;

1. You paid for an upgrade and don't want to pay the difference to reselect your seat in a different cabin

2. There is a change in aircraft or your flight was canceled. In this case, British Airways may be unable to find you an alternative seat that matches your preferences

3. You have become unable to meet the safety requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to sit in an exit row seat. In such cases, you have to contact British Airways at least 48 hours before the flight

You automatically qualify for a refund if your flight has been canceled and already within 48 hours of departure. You don't need to apply for a refund. British Airways should process it and send it to you within three weeks after the flight is canceled. If you don't receive it, contact the support team for help or fill in the 'Refund for Paid Seating' form.

You don't qualify for a refund under the following conditions;

1. If British Airways upgrades you

2. If you canceled your flight

3. If it is over 30 days after completion of the flight

4. If you don't qualify to sit in the seat type you selected

5. If the flight you booked is operated through a different airline and you change your flight. You need to reserve seats on the new flight and pay for it. You won't receive a refund

6. If you change your flight, you may get an equivalent seat on the new flight. Unfortunately, you don't get a refund if you choose a lower-priced seat.
