If you are trying to use your phone but there isn't a dial tone, here are some things you can try:
Your Phone's lights say a lot about your phone. To see what message your phone lights are sending, check the following:
All lights Are off
If all the lights are off on your phone, this could mean several things. The battery could be dead, the battery could be broke, the unit may not be plugged in, or there is no battery. Make sure the power cord is plugged into an outlet that works. Try charging the battery or replacing it if it is not working.
The lights are flashing
Sometimes your house phone can pick up interference from the other electronics in your home. When this happens the lights on your phone will continue to flash. Try unplugging the phone in that location and plug it into another to see if that doesn't help.
TEL lights are only flashing
If your modem thinks your phone is in use, the TEL lights will flash off and on. Try checking your other phones to see if they are hung up.
If your phone is connected to the modem, try resetting the modem. Sometimes you will lose a signal completely and the phone will stop working. This can be easily fixed by a fast reset of your modem, which will establish a new connection. The reset button is usually located on the back of the phone modem. You will need a pin or a paper clip to stick into the tiny hole to reset it. You only need to push it in once and then quickly pull it back out. Once you do a reset, all the lights on your phone will go off then little by little they will come back on as the modem slowly loads back up. When the reset is complete both TEL lights will stop blinking.
You can also use the online reset tool to reset your modem by visiting your, "My Account" page then clicking the Modem Refresh Tool.
