Introduction

If you recently received a suspicious email, call, or text message that seemed to be from Bank of America, or if you have noticed transactions that you don't remember making, then you need to take action immediately. These things could be the result of attempted identity theft or a hacked bank account. The faster you act, the lower your losses will be.

What You'll Need

Bank of America will never send a text, call, or email asking you to confirm your personal or account details by responding to the text, call, or email. Receiving such a communication is good reason to be suspicious. If the communication doesn't address you by name but does try to create a sense of urgency about responding to the communication, you have good reason to be suspicious.Grammar and spelling errors are another good reason to think that the communication is fraudulent. If an email you are doubtful about provides a link it wants you to click on, hover the cursor over the link. Information about the link should pop up. A link destination that is different than the email claims it to be is an enormous red flag.Promises of gifts or rewards after you provide personal or account information are also red flags.

If you received a suspicious email, forward the suspicious email to abuse@bankofamerica.com.

If you need to report a suspicious transaction, skip to step 6.

If you received a suspicious text, forward the text to your cell phone provider at 7726 and follow their instructions.

Also, forward a copy of the text to Bank of America at the email address provided in step 1.

If you received a suspicious phone call, call a Bank of America representative to report it.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Bank of America Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
