Apple products are famous for being innovative and fun to use. The app, iTunes, is no exception. iTunes can be used on Apple devices as well as Windows computers. You can manage your iTunes account through the app or website. There may be times when you find your account disabled or locked, and this guide can help you restore your account access. Please read on to learn more.

The How and Why

If you receive an error message stating that your account or Apple ID is locked due to security reasons, your password was more than likely entered incorrectly too many times. To resolve this, simply reset your password. Please note that Apple has solutions for most scenarios. You will find the steps outlined below.

Resetting Your Password With Your own Device

  1. Go to Settings on your device and click on your name, then select the Password and Security option, then Change Password.
  2. You may be prompted to enter a passcode if you've enabled one on your account. Follow the steps prompted by the app.

Resetting Your Password using a Friend's or Family Member's Apple Device

You can also recover your account using a trusted relative's or friend's Apple device if they have the Apple Support or Find My iPhone apps.

  1. For the Apple Support app, open it and tap on Passwords and Security, then Reset Apple ID Password.
  2. Select the Get Started option, and then choose A Different Apple ID. You will need to enter your Apple ID and then follow the prompts.
  3. If you're worried about your information being stored on someone else's device, Apple has you covered. The Apple Support app is separate from iTunes and will not store any information.

You may need to use the Find my iPhone app if your friend or relative's Apple device can't download the Apple Support app.

  1. Open it and make sure that the Apple ID field is blank on the sign in screen. Tap or click on the option Forgot my Apple ID or Password and follow the instructions.
  2. If you don't see a sign in, then log out of the app and go to the login page. Follow the same steps as above to reset your password.

However, if you see a message that states that your account is locked on both iTunes and the Apple Store, you will need to get in touch with an Apple Customer Service Representative here. Please keep in mind that resetting your password might be impossible if none of the above solutions worked and you no longer have your recovery key or trusted device.
