If you book a stay through Airbnb, you can cancel it up to 24 hours before your arrival date without penalty. You'll get a full refund if you cancel between 24 and 48 hours before your check-in time. If you cancel after 48 hours or don't show up, Airbnb will charge you 50 percent of the reservation's total cost. Here are the steps to cancel your trip with Airbnb.

1. Log In to Your Airbnb Account

To cancel, log in to your Airbnb account. If you don't have an account, go to the Airbnb website and click the Sign Up button.

When you log in, visit the homepage of your profile page. Go to Settings, Payments and Billing and Cancel Trip Request.

2. Click Cancel My Trip

To cancel your trip, click Cancel My Trip. Airbnb will charge you a cancelation fee for the remaining days of your reservation. The fee amount is calculated based on how far away from your start date when you cancel.

3. Select the Reason for Your Cancelation

When you cancel your trip, you'll need to select a reason for the cancelation. You can choose from a list of reasons or write your own. The reason is not a factor in the amount of your refund. It helps Airbnb better understand why you're canceling your reservation and how it can improve its service.

If it prompts you to provide a reason for canceling, it's important to be honest, and specific. The reason you give will help the hosts understand why you need to cancel. This can also help them decide whether they would like to re-rent the space for another guest.

4. Review Your Cancelation Request

Once you review your cancelation request and are satisfied, click Cancel My Trip. You will receive a prompt to enter your password and the email address associated with your Airbnb account. It will take you to a page confirming that Airbnb has canceled your trip.

If there are any errors in your cancelation request, contact Airbnb customer service.

5. Confirm That You Want a Refund on Your Card

The next step is to confirm that you want Airbnb to credit your payment to your card. This is important because Airbnb will not automatically return any money if it doesn't hear from you within 24 hours of receiving their cancelation email.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for AirBnB Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like AirBnB in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Cancel My Trip with AirBnB? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
