What are the hours and when should I call?

GEICO operates the call center for this 800-841-3005 phone number Mon-Fri 7am-midnight, Sat 8am-9pm, Sun 8am-7pm ET. The short answer is that you should call on a Monday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 47,804 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this GEICO phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like GEICO staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call GEICO is Monday. The most busy day to call is Wednesday. Again, this is based on a sample of 47,804 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.
The shortest wait on hold
We measured the shortest hold times to be on Thursday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Monday.
The best time to call
In summation, the best day to call GEICO is Monday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that GEICO staffs the call center well on Monday.

My Experience Calling GEICO at this Number

Jan 18, 2024

It's time for me to renew my auto policy, and before I do, I want to look around for the cheapest policy. You would have to be deaf not knowing about the GEICO gecko, so I thought I would call the company to see what they could do for me. I've never had GEICO insurance, but they have a lot of customers and do a lot of advertising, so I figure they must be doing something right. With that in mind, I decided to give them a call.

Now, GEICO handles a lot of different types of insurance, from auto to homeowners to RV insurance to motorcycle insurance. Therefore, I assumed I would end up on a hold line forever, but it only took me a few minutes to get to an agent. That is the part I'm happiest about because I didn't want to waste time on the call.

When I called, I was greeted by an automated message that said, "Thank you for calling the GEICO insurance agency. Your call may be recorded for quality purposes. How can I help you today? You can say a wide range of things, from the status of a claim to questions about a homeowner's claim."

I responded, "Auto insurance," and the automated system replied, "Do you need help with your auto insurance claim? Say yes to be connected to our service department. Say no to being connected to our sales department." This was a tiny bit confusing and odd way to word this request, but once I figured it out, I said no. It then asked me for personal information, including my birthday, ten-digit phone number, and the zip code where I wanted to insure my vehicle. It then asked me, "Have you had an auto policy with us in the last six months?" When I responded no, it asked if I was in the military.

After saying no, it finally took me to the last step before the hold line. A recorded message said, "We may collect personal information from other sources, which we may disclose to third pirates in certain circumstances. Our privacy policy is available online or upon request." Then, there was a brief pause, and the hold music started. I was only on hold for a few minutes before an agent picked up who was friendly. They quoted me on auto insurance and gave me some quotes for other insurance products in case I decided to bundle. This was also very helpful.
