How Do I Return an Item from TJ Maxx?
T.J. Maxx, also known as TJX, has a detailed return policy. The proper way to return merchandise depends on the original purchase location, payment method, and order date. This article will let you know what to expect whether you are returning T.J. Maxx merchandise in-store or with a shipping label.
Merchandise that is in its original condition, meaning it is unworn or unused, can be returned to T.J. Maxx within 40 days of the order date. You will need to check the receipt because there are exceptions. Items that aren't eligible to be returned will either be noted in the returns column on the receipt or in the online product description. The method for returning the item depends upon its original purchase location and payment type.
Returning In-Store
Merchandise purchased online can only be returned to a T.J. Maxx store or T.J. Maxx online returns warehouse. To return the item, bring your receipt or shipping confirmation email to your nearest store location. At the T.J. Maxx returns counter, you will also need to provide your signature to authorize the return.
If you no longer have the T.J. Maxx receipt, it may still be possible to return your merchandise in-store. The store will require your government-issued photo ID, name, address, and signature. In order to prevent fraud, some returns may be restricted by the TJX refund verification system.
Returning By Mail
Merchandise purchased in-store cannot be returned online. To make online returns easier, T.J. Maxx includes a shipping return label with the receipt for online orders. Please note:
- Using the label will deduct $9.99 from your return value.
- You need to include a copy of your T.J. Maxx receipt or shipping confirmation email in the package.
- The merchandise must be received by T.J. Maxx within 40 days since the order date to get a cash refund.
- Merchandise received after 40 days will be refunded with store credit.
- Returns with no receipt or a gift receipt will receive store credit only.
- Unless the merchandise was defective, return shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.
- Exchanges are unavailable for online orders.
Unique Payment Methods
Apple Pay Returns:
- If you originally paid using Apple Pay, you will need to show your receipt or email confirmation at the register.
- In circumstances where you no longer have proof of using Apple Pay, the cashier will then ask if you have the physical credit card used for the Apple Pay purchase.
- When that card is also unavailable, the cashier will follow current store procedures to refund the amount to another card.
Paypal Returns:
In-store purchases returned to the store will receive store credit. Items that are returned by mail will be credited back with the $9.99 shipping fee deducted.
T.J. Maxx gift cards cannot be returned.
Refund Processing Time
Refunds performed in-store will be processed immediately, but your bank may take a few days to post the credit to your account. T.J. Maxx returns that were mailed in will be credited to your account within 10 to 14 days after being received.
